My morning went by quick with an office tour, staff meeting, and team introductions. Before I knew it, it was time for my welcome lunch in California Adventure *more pixie dust was sprinked* After lunch, the day zoomed by as I rolled up my sleeves and jumped right into the work. At 6:30 p.m. I was rushing out the door to meet Melvin for dinner before our Monday night Married Couples Fellowship http://marriedcouplesfellowship.com/ group. We walked in right on time and during music worship, I found myself consumed with thoughts from the day's events and tomorrow's tasks. I even found myself resenting being there. I was disgusted with myself at that very thought - pushing God, and my marriage for that matter, aside for work even after all the good God has shown me in fulfilling his promises to me!
Melvin must have felt me slip, because he squeezed my hand and gave me a smile. I said a quick prayer to clear my mind and to focus on the things of God. That's when I heard Pastor John read Isaiah 53 and just like that, God changed my heart. We closed with communion where Pastor John had the men come up to receive the bread. As I watched Melvin walk up with the other husbands, I teared up. It reminded me of his beautiful testimony (I'm praying that one day he will share his testimony with you on this site!) and all that he has overcome in his journey to God.
BTW, Melvin had these delivered to me on Monday. They were waiting for me on my desk after lunch ;)
The lesson? That fleshly/worldly desires won't satisfy us and that we will always thirst for more unless we focus on the things of God. For those of you who doubt, try to think of one thing that has completely satisfied you.
Another lesson. Be quick to pray! Don't wait as the last resort if you want to intercept the devil!
